Welcome to the Geography homepage

Teaching of Geography as a major at the St Augustine campus began in 2005 and the first group of 40 students graduated in 2008. There are currently three full-time members of academic staff, along with several part-time teaching staff. The group maintain close links with the Department of Geography and Geology at Mona, with an interchange of staff between the two campuses.

The Geography programme covers the broad areas of physical (geomorphology, biogeography, climate change) and human (urban, economic) geography, with a strong emphasis on geomatics (computerized spatial techniques) and the Caribbean. Most students study Geography alongside cognate science subjects such as Environment and Natural Resource Management, Biology or Agriculture, although other combinations are possible. A geography degree is prized by employers because of its strong component of practical skills, and can lead to careers in government, management and teaching.

MPhil/PhD in Geography

The M.Phil./Ph.D. programme in Geography provides high quality research training in multi-disciplinary geographical research methods. The programme facilitates candidates to conduct research in areas of international significance and produce graduates capable of developing and leading their own research projects, either in academia or industry. The programme allows for study in areas of Geography staff research interests and expertise. As the number and diversity of academic staff increases, the M.Phil./ Ph.D. programme will be expanded.

See here for further details.
