First St. Augustine Geography students graduate PDF Print

jasontambieThe first group of 40 Geography students graduated on Friday 31 October, a little over three years since they started their degrees. Congratulations to them all!

The graduates include Jason Tambie who obtained a first class honours. Jason commented after his graduation "I was very privileged to be part of the pioneering Geography class at this institution. I remember my first geography class with Dr. Judy Rocke - it seems just like yesterday! I miss those days.

"The best part of the Geography degree was the field trips. I remember going to Rampanalgas to map the coastline and to Tunapuna to delimit the Central Business District (CBD). We also went to places like Point Fortin, Maracas Bay and Caura River, in addition to visiting caves filled with bats in the Northern Range.

"I am extremely happy to graduate in Geography. I would like to encourage my fellow geographers out there to work hard in everything you do since Geography opens up a lot of opportunities for you."

Jason, pictured recieving his bachelor's degree from Jeremy Callaghan, campus registrar, is now undertaking a PhD in Geography, looking at flood risk in the Caroni basin, Trinidad.

Teaching of Geography has a major began in 2005 and has been expanding ever since, with the addition of four academic staff. For more information on undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Geography, please visit the Geography website.
